Where to Stay in Chiang Mai

The area matters more than the hotel here. Nimmanhaemin is where the coffee shops, coworking spaces and long-stay crowd are, and where most remote workers end up. The Old City sits inside the moat — walkable, closer to the temples and the Sunday market, quieter in the evenings. The riverside east of the moat is calmer again, and where most of the higher-end places are. If you are visiting between February and April, ask specifically whether rooms have air purifiers; it makes a real difference.
